Police Commission

The Police Commission is composed of six members total, all appointed by the City Council.  The membership includes three (3) Cannon Falls Residents, two (2) members of the City Council and the mayor. The Police Commission duties are as follows:

  • Recommend the hire of Police Chief and Officers;
  • To assist the council in planning and research in the area of police matters, including budget, equipment, manpower, inter-governmental cooperation, and public information programs;
  • Take under advisement, study, hold meetings and make their written recommendations to the Mayor / City Council on all other police or police related matters referred to them by staff or City Council;
  • The Commission shall not have jurisdiction over the employment, promotion, discharge, or suspension of Police Department employees;
  • Members shall serve on staggered 3-year terms;

Police Commission will meet quarterly or as needed.
